Has there ever been an instance where you've watched several strangers come together and begin jamming to a song they’ve never played together before? And when it comes the banjo player’s turn he/she will crank out a break that sounds like they’ve been playing the song for years even though it might be their first time to play it. How does this happen? This is what the “Cut n Paste Method” (CnP) is all about. CnP is designed to help the banjo player create a break to any song just by knowing only its “chord formula.” CnP is NOT designed to create a melody break. That can come later. CnP is designed for the banjo player to SURVIVE and contribute in a jam situation. |
| Pete Wernick (Dr. Banjo): "The Cut 'n Paste Method is an easily-digested introduction to the use of movable phrases in makeshift solos. I recommend this book to banjo pickers needing help in "faking" solos in jam sessions (melody-based soloing is not the focus here), as it presents a practical and appropriate method to manipulate the building blocks of Scruggs-style banjo. In a concise format the player learns the principles and some good examples. The door can then be opened to the wide world of banjo licks, using favorites from many different sources."

| This book gives clear instructions on how to use simple licks to create breaks to any song, how to find the song's "chord formula," lick cards for simple G, C and D licks and a CD demonstrating the licks and breaks to the songs included in the book, such as, "I'll Fly Away, Man of Constant Sorrow, Will the Circle Be Unbroken and more. Playalong tracks in slow and up tempo are provided for each song so you can practice your "cut n paste" licks. This method enables you to participate in a jam in a matter of weeks or months rather than years and the information you gain will teach you to create you own breaks to other songs and give you the confidence to play with others. Customer Testimonials: Hi Wil, I purchased your book from Angie's Banjo several months ago and it is my goto banjo book. It has helped me more than I can tell you. Thanks! My question is when are you coming out with the next book of "up the neck and melodic licks and turn around" that you mention in the current book? I will be first in line! Your faith in The Lord is evident in your book and that is refreshing in our current times. Randy D.
Hi Angie, Thanks very much for sending me Cut n Paste. I'm just a humble novice picker trying to earnestly learn to play. With the new Cut 'n' Paste book, my rolls are beginning to sound like real Bluegrass licks. I've heard many of the licks in the book while listening to Bluegrass. Never in my dreams did I ever think that I would get an opportunity to learn so much so soon, if only I apply myself to Mr. Huckabay's simply instructions. Thanks a million and I'll recommend this system to all my banjo picking friends. Thanks Very Much, Najjaa Muhammad
Hello Wil, I recently purchased your Banjo Building Blocks Cut n Paste book and I just LOVE it. I have been playing nearly 2 years and your book has come along at exactly the time and point that I need it. You better hurry up and get the new book ready, cause I'm gonna be ready for it before too long. Indeed, you have put together a very good learning tool. Thanks a lot and keep writing more stuff. Hi! Angie,
I wanted to let you know I've been working through the "Cut n Paste" book I received from you several weeks ago. What an eye opener. I have just about every backup or lick book on the market but they never made any sense until now. Can you tell me when Volume 2 will be available?
Thanks again for your website and all the work you do to help us "older" folks learn the banjo.
Mary, TN.
Dear Mr. Huckabay, I received your CnP course two days ago. I can't begin to tell you how excited I am. This appears to be exactly what I need at this point in my learning experence. This may be the greatest book ever for this type of lesson. Thank you. Dick Chesser Wil - I purchased your book and am finding it lots of fun. I see the merits of learning to use the licks (or any of my favorite licks) in a structured manner. It kind of 'implies' the melody and works fine for where I'm at. I like the songs you picked and I'm able to play along with your slow versions without too much trouble. The full speed tempos will take a while!!!! I think it is good the way you actually sing and perform the song in the same manner as one would find encounter them in a real jam session or performance. Well done. I have listed licks from books before, but never took it far enough to be able to actually use them in the manner you do. Your 'Cut 'n Paste' puts it all together nicely. It's fun and I am enjoying 'playing' with it by experimenting with different licks. I am already looking forward to your Volume 2..Dave H. |
